Dress 33: Showing Some Skin, Starting With My Face

18.2.11

I love that it's finally warm enough to bring out the leather jacket.

Can't get enough of the sunshine.
Jacket - don't recall (no label); Dress - F21; Shirts - Smart Set; Boots - Aldo.
I don't usually wear this dress.  It's one of those that tends to sit around in my closet.  I love the embroidery detail, but I'm not too crazy about the full, flouncy and shimmery skirt on me.  But I kind of like pairing a very feminine dress/skirt/top with something very masculine, in this case the leather jacket and cowboy booties. What do you think?  Trash, stash, or save?  And if your answer is save, I'd love suggestions on how you would style it.  Thanks!  You guys rock!

Today is Friday...which really has no meaning for me since I work freelance as does Husband.  So days of the week are kind of devoid of the traditional meaning.  Usually though, weekends are busy as that's when many conferences and indie film shoots happen.  But this weekend is surprisingly easy-breezy.  So perhaps, we'll take advantage of the weather to go for nice walks with Baby and Drake the Dog.  I'm excited about the warmer weather.  I'm tired of the many layers and happy to show some skin to the sun!

By the way, in case you're wondering, I'm finding not shopping very hard to do.  When I was downtown yesterday it took all my effort to not go into my favorite stores.  I just couldn't look at stuff and be tempted.  Right now my will is too weak for that.  I'm hoping that as things get easier, I'll go in for inspiration.

True Story:  I realized after taking these shots that I totally forgot to put on make-up.  Whatever, you guys get to see everything I guess.  And on that note, I need new mascara. Recommendations?

  1. Definitely keep that dress. Maxi dresses are in this season, so you're ahead of the game. I tried on a maxi dress this morning, but when I looked out the window and still saw snow on the ground, I just couldn't bring myself to go out in it. I think maybe if had thrown a sweater over it instead of the sheer blouse I had on..(hmm). So I broke down the other day and bought more stuff. *gasp* I was excited about getting the items. I had been eye-ing them for a while. Kept resisting...but knowing there was just 1 in stock and could be gone at any moment..AH!!! It was killing me. I convinced myself that I could let myself buy the items AS LONG AS I could style them in more than 1 way. More bang for the buck, so to speak. Hah..Like trying to convince yourself that one more piece of chocolate won't hurt. I think I can even *hear* your head shaking. SO..what am I going to do? Well, to start, I'm not going to visit certain websites. You know. A clean break. Obviously I can't do 'window shopping'. Too weak. What's funny is that when I do go to these sites (you know which ones), and I look at the new items, I breathe a sigh of relief when I don't see anything adorable. Phew! No temptation this time. Actually, one thing that has helped is that I found another website, urbanog.com that sells a few of the exact same items, but for about 40% less. That's made me more aware of over-paying, which is a big turn off. For ex, this pair of shoes: http://www.shopruche.com/uptown-girl-peep-toe-heels-in-light-gray-p-5329.html. I bought (a month ago) two of them for a total of about $50 on the other site (and got free shipping). And you remember that Ruche pink jacket that was selling for like $110 (hip length and it had a ruffled collar and belt)? I found the exact same one on Lulus.com for something like $75 and with a coupon I ended up paying about $50. So..just something to be aware of..

  2. Aagh, you were doing so good! You know that temptation of "there's only one left" is hard to resist. I recently had a similar episode, but I tried to think of what I had that was similar or could be styled to achieve a similar look. And some of my success was due to distraction. Out of sight out of mind.

I had to stop window shopping for a while too, now I can just look at it. And I tell myself, "I don't need it. I have soemthing similar that I can make just as cute."

    I hate overpaying as well!

I think the real key to my small success has been that I made myself accountable to someone - Husband.

But you know what, you fell off the wagon once. Get right back on, and you can do it if you want to!

  3. Well, I too love the embroidery. If you're a seamstress (or know one) I would shorten the dress, and add either lace or tulle peaking out from under it. That would add some feminine charm and make it no longer a maxi dress.

  4. That's a very good idea. I hadn't thought of that!
