Age Appropriate, Who Cares Anymore?

22.4.15

Ombre-dress-tribal-sweater-boho-style

There's this time where I was really concerned about whether what I was wearing was age appropriate.

But recently, I just don't care.  I am who I am and that's just that.  I've never been a booty short kind of girl, so there's really no fear of my being that kind of woman.  Otherwise, braided buns over 30 with boho dresses? Why the heck not?  You just gotta be who you are you know?

Morning coffee dates have become kind of a thing with me and my girl lately.  When us ladies are home alone, we usually take the little walk over to the nice new coffee shop that opened in our neighborhood.  I get my coffee, and she gets her almond croissant.

Then, with a smile and a hug she convinces me to go over to the park too *not that I need much convincing, but I like the extra hug*  It's our routine.  Which is about to end as she heads off to school tomorrow.  But in the meantime, I'm going to enjoy our last coffee date today.

Decades of Palazzo Pants

I've always had a thing for palazzo pants.  But for a while there * read: ten years or more* they have been out of style and therefore you couldn't find a pair to save your life.  Same thing with kimonos - three cheers for that resurgence! Now they're everywhere and I'm stocking up for the next ten years.  They may then be out of style, but I love how they look and they're staying in my closet. You know those things that you like regardless of trend?  This is one of those things.

And ultimately, isn't that what defines personal style.

p.s. That blue wristband is a permanent accessory for the next little while as it signifies my permission to be on the grounds and get all my meals.  So...yeah.

Returning home on the bus with my baby girl in my lap, holding her close because she'd been complaining of a tummy ache, I wished the driver could go faster.  I feared what was about to happen on the crowded, rush hour ride.  And sure enough, within seconds it went flying.  Vomit.  Vomit went flying from my little girl into my face, my hair, and all down both of our coats, scarves, and pants.  By that point I had resigned myself, and while no one said anything, I knew this is not what they wanted after a long day at work.  But when my girl started crying, not because she felt sick or because she vomited, but because she got 'you all dirty' I said screw it.

Nothing I could do for the other people.  They were adults and just had to understand that sometimes crap *or vomit* like this happens, especially to little toddlers.  I could, however, do something for the little girl crying in my arms upset that she got me dirty.  I soothed that little girl telling her it didn't matter, and sat there holding her covered in puke for the next ten minutes - until we got to our stop.  No one offered a word of encouragement, or a friendly look of sympathy.  It was a very looooong ten minutes.

Until it came to my stop, and a lady who was sitting at the far back came forward, and as she past us, she didn't cringe or give a dirty look like I had done this on purpose *'cause yeah, I torture my child just to screw up your day* but instead she cried, "Oh no!  Can I help you????"  She was getting off at the same stop as I,  and as the bus slowed, stopped, opened and we exited, she kept offering her assistance.  Asking if there's anything she can do to help us home.  We were all right - I just had to carry her to the house and then get her cleaned off - but this lady with her sincere help and understanding gave me the support and strength I needed at exactly the right time.

Thank you.  Thank you to this lady.  I don't know your name, and I didn't catch it as I was wrapped up in my girl, but thank you.  You really helped give one mama a little camaraderie right when she needed it.

Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fonder..Or Something Like That

3.9.13

Top - thrifted // Tank - hand me down // Jeans - Gap //  Boots - c/o Dansko  //  Necklace - Lustre Boutique

Shooting the first block of Synchronicity last week was great - apologies for my absence here.  Those of you who follow on Instagram saw a lot of the behind the scenes.  Also, I'll be posting updates on my acting site regularly so you might want to check that out too *more details and pictures from the shoot*.  This was actually a 'to set' outfit.  Driving two hours means I want to be comfy all the way.

Getting back to regular life has been hard, mostly due to the fact that I'm soooo tired for some reason.  I'm dragging and not really feeling very motivated.  But that doesn't mean anything. I've gotten back to work on client photos and other things.  Looking forward to getting some rest too!

p.s.  Can you believe that it's September?!?!?!

Constant Photobombs

2.7.13

Dress - ASOS //  Zebra necklace - Lustre  //  Belt - Threadsence  //  Boots - Feet First  //  Socks - F21  //  Bag - Matt by Matt&Nat

The one sure thing about being a Mama trying to take some fashion photos is that you're going to get photobombed by some sticky fingers and kissy faces.  They don't realize - or care - that you're trying to do something.  The most important thing in the world is that you look - "Hey Mom!  It's a truck!"
Oh well.  At least you get to see the outfit she picked out for herself.  Matching pink is what all the cool three year olds are wearing.

Do you ever just want to smack someone upside the head?  Honestly, when did that go out of style?  I have at least three good instances in a week where I think someone just plain old deserves a good smack upside the head.  You know, a nice and easy, not too hard, smack just to shake some things around and hopefully uproot the common sense that has been lying dormant in there.  I know, I'm a very cheerful and optimistic person....I'm assuming that they have some common sense to shake up.

Embracing The Chaos

12.12.12

I've given up I think.  The photobombing appears to be here to stay.  Even worse, every time I pull out the camera she finds a spot right in front, turns to me, and says "cheese!"  She thinks it's all about her.  I guess that's my fault, what with following her around with a camera since minute one.  So I've decided to embrace it rather than fight it.  This is my life, this is my fashion.

I guess it makes sense.  I'm not one of those immaculately put together fashionistas you see on the internet everywhere.  I don't have every single hair perfectly in place, and I often do have toddler food on my clothes.  So it makes sense that my pictures are just as messy as me.

Just so you know, I'm obsessed with jackets lately.  It seems that every shop I visit I'm supernaturally drawn to their jackets.  It's probably the dropping degrees in the weather that have me reaching for fun outerwear, but then again it might be something else.

Maybe I'm searching for ways to cover up.  Maybe I'm searching for the perfect finishing touches.  Maybe it's my new Joie de Vivre over the film shoots and auditions and wonderful feedback.

Jackets, as a metaphor for life and the soul.  Who knew I could be so profound?
Certainly, not me.

Maybe jackets are just really cute, end of story.

Leaving the checkout, I notice the lady in the next aisle looking at Baby Girl snacking on a single serving bag of chips shaking her head.  She then looks at me with a dirty look.  Totally ticks me off when women judge each other's ability to mother.  Lady, what do you know?

Yes, maybe once a month Baby Girl gets a single serving of chips all to herself.  There is nothing wrong with that.  And perhaps, you should compare our shopping carts before you shake your head at me.

Mine:  Kale, beets, cucmber, avocado, mixed nuts, bananas, almond milk, rice ice cream, apples, lemons, fresh chicken breasts, drumsticks, bag of basmati rice, cashew butter, eggs.

Hers:  McCain frozen meal, Frozen pizza, white wonder bread, big hunk of cheese, bag of cookies, sandwich meat, some frozen cooked meat, ketchup, lettuce, tomatoe.

I wasn't judging you before *because I just don't care*  but I certainly am now.

You know what they say about people who live in glass houses right?
Don't be throwin' no s@#t around!

Stinky Smelly

9.10.12

Jacket - F21

Bad Smells. You know you love 'em.  I ride my bike through this one path right near the slaughterhouses, and the smell is well, I'm sure I don't need to describe it for you.  Then we're out for a walk around the pond and there's this one tiny spot where it smells like sweaty feet, poo, and old food all at the same time.

So of course, I stop right there to take some outfit pictures.

True Story:
Andrew and I are fast asleep.
We suddenly hear Baby Girl rustling about in her crib.
She suddenly says, "I got it.  I got it. I GOT IT!"
She's fast asleep.  Talking.

Southern Belle and All

17.9.12

Threadsence Hi-Lo top // Gap tank & jeans // Lustre, Montreal zebra necklace // F21 sunnies // Payless shoes

How y'all doin' today?  Me, I'm speaking and thinking in a southern accent. And I can't shake it for the life of me.  So that's how you should read today's post - with a southern accent.   This always happens when I watch too many episodes or films about the southern United States.  I suddenly start speaking like Lemon from Hart of Dixie.  Like some southern belle, or actually more like one of them cowboys.

I was always more inclined that way, never really wishing to be a southern belle.  Nope - broken in jeans, a plaid flannel shirt with a some open buttons, cowboy boots, and a great ol' big cowboy hat is always how I imagined myself if I was from the south.  Yeah, I think that would be just fine.

Too bad I'm not though.  Can-eh-jun through and through, from Torrono  *for those of you not familiar it's "Canadian" and "Toronto" - sorry a bit of an injoke for us Canucks*

True Story:
Baby was at the pond and as every duck flew in to land on the pond - and there were a lot of them - she said to each one of them, "Good Moning Ducks!"
Now doesn't that just break your heart?

Don't Hate The Zebra

24.8.12

Dress - Threadsence
Belt - F21
Shoes - Ruche
Necklace - Lustre boutique in Montreal

I'm clearly obsessed with this new necklace of mine.  I've already worn it three times already*here and here* and I can't see myself getting sick of it anytime soon.  So I hope you don't hate it and don't get sick of it either.

On another matter, I can't seem to get my butt into the salon for a cut.  This mop of mine needs some styling but for some reason I just keep delaying it and wondering if one day I won't wake up with magically cut hair.  That happens, right?

Quote of Today:
