Random Sundays: A Day At The Museum

17.8.14

ModaMama
I've become very aware of the fact that my girl is going to school in just a few short weeks. The days when we're home together and can do anything on our whim are coming to a close.  So I've been trying to do some really fun things with just the two of us.  Dates, as you will.  And just recently we went to the Royal Ontario Museum to check out their wildlife and dinosaur exhibits.

ModaMama
As soon as we entered she plowed through everything really, really quickly.  And once we reached the end she turned to me and said, "Let's start again!"

So we did and this time we went through slowly, doing all the activities.

After a few hours, and tons of activities - including a tea party - she was pooped.

But at bedtime she asked, "When can we go see the dinosaurs again Mama?"

Random Sundays: Week Away

3.8.14

The week away at the family camp was possible the best time in my little girls's life. So far anyway.

They Keep Bathing Me

2.2.14

wet-dog

It's a huge injustice.

One Dog, One Bath

5.1.14

Not only did Drake the Dog have to suffer the indecency of a bath, but then he couldn't even freak out without baby girl jumping all over him.

I tell ya, life as a dog is rough in this house.

Everyone's Idea of Fun is Different

8.12.13

There's a Holiday Train from the Canadian Railway that pulls up with all these lights. One of the cars is open and set up like a stage for a Christmas concert. There's hot chocolate. There's a firetruck and an ambulance for the kids to run and sit inside.

All Natural Spa Night Birthday

1.12.13

My best friend, Emily, had her "29th" Birthday party and she had a great idea for a two parter day.  The first part was a fun family visit where partners and children were welcome.

Of course my Baby Girl decided to tell everyone what to do.  She had the adults dressed up and reading stories to her.

For the second part the families got kicked out and it was just us ladies for some wine and an all natural girl's spa.

All-Natural-Spa-Night

I loved getting together with some of these ladies that I hadn't seen for a while, and meeting some wonderful new women.  They're all such generous and open hearted women. Feels like I've known them all for years.

Random Sundays: Handy

6.10.13

Some people have a handy man.
Some people have a handy woman.
I have a handy baby.

Random Sundays: Chin-Up Robots

29.9.13

I bought a P90x chin up assist.
When it came in the boxes I was so excited about my new toy.
Little did I realize that I had also bought a robot costume for baby girl.

Splash!

8.9.13

Last weekend. My Babcia, who was visiting from Poland was flying out within a few days.  So we spent as much time with family as possible.  Which meant that Baby Girl spent as much time in the pool as possible.  Her favorite order?  "Jump, Daddy!"  And he of course, gladly obliged.

What to do with Leftover Juice Pulp

25.8.13

My regular obsession with juicing has led me down another path:  cooking...sort of.  Don't get me wrong, Andrew is very much the gourmet and I have no intention of fighting for that title.  It's just that as I've been juicing, every time I got rid of the pulp I was disheartened about the waste.  So what did I do?  I finally figured out what to do with the pulp.

I made two batches of gluten/dairy free muffins with veggie pulp.  And then made a curried potato stew with the rest of the pulp.  Yay!  I have good nutritious meals and yummy juice.

I'm thinking of putting it into pastas, and stir fries too.

Swimming

18.8.13

Em doing the dog paddle and Drake doing the human paddle.

My Husband's Idea Of Fashion Photos

4.8.13

Some of you have asked  how I take my photos.  The answer is simple.  I use a tripod and remote control 97% of the time.  There is however that 3% of the time where I get Andrew to do it.  And this is how that goes...

I tell Andrew to stand where I intend to stand.  Configure my settings so that it's lit the way I want it to be, and frame it up the way I want the photo to look and take a picture to show him what to copy  Then I make him notice where he and I are standing.  We trade places, he looks at the photo I took and copies the exact same framing...most of the time.

But when I take that example photo to show him how I want the picture to look he usually does something 'cool' *as in, he thinks it's cool*  So I thought I'd share some of those pictures with you today.

Random Sundays: What Men Are Thinking

14.7.13

A wet and dirty diaper.
I can't fathom what he's thinking when he does things like this.

Random Sundays: Farmer's Market

7.7.13

Farmer's markets are especially fun when they give out free mini cupcakes!

Cheers!

23.6.13

You all know I love to juice.  My juicer is probably the most used appliance in the kitchen...other than the kettle.  So inspired by a conversation with a recent dinner guest, I decided to mix it up and make a fun bright green juice.  Ingredients: parsley, cilantro, kale, cucumber, celery, spinach, lemon, and apples.  *the secret is lots of lemon to cut the earthiness of the green leafy veggies*

Baby girl and I shared a cup of this in the backyard under the radiant sunshine.

Big Girl

16.6.13

My little "I do it myself," insists on carrying Daddy's *thankfully empty* big backpack girl, is three today.  Three years!  That's kind of crazy to me sometimes.

Worst Mother Of The Year

26.5.13

It's warm and sunny, so of course she just has to wear her mitts to go outside and wait for the bus.  The clincher was also that she insisted on carrying her own bag, no matter what I did or how many times I offered.  This of course, made me look like worst mother of the year to all the passengers and passersby.  They all gave me the look that said, "I can't believe you're making her carry that big bag."  If they only knew.  *sigh*

Random Sundays: Planting Dandelions

19.5.13

Garden visits in your PJs to plant dandelions.  That's how we roll over here at the Haughton house.  Can't wait to see how she reacts to the growing plants this year.

Looking For The Rainbow In The Storm

5.5.13

That's what I'm trying to do.

Random Sundays: Heels!

28.4.13

The shoe obsessed fashionista is alive and well in our house.
What's shocking is that she's incredibly good at walking around the house in heels!
