Sustainable When Possible

I don't know if you know that the fashion industry is one of the worst polluters. Our cheap clothes are made in a way that damages our environment, and damages our fellow humans *low wages, and poor working conditions.*  It's true. As part of that industry, I try to be mindful of buying sustainable or fair trade, or both when I can.  I'm not perfect, clearly, but it is something I keep in mind and make conscious choices when I can.

Star Wars Fashion for the Star Wars Movie

Yesterday was probably a geek girls dream. I treated myself to a decaf Almond milk latte from the awesome coffee shop in the 'hood - SuperCoffee.  Then had a blast recording several new podcasts for the D&D game I'm in. Yes, I play D&D and in this game I'm a hesitant doctor who prefers to use her sword.

Sartorial Rabbit Hole of Joy, or Lyst

I've recently been going down the best rabbit hole ever. And I do mean that. I've been spending time on Lyst. It's seriously like a fashionista's online Mecca. You create an account and answer a whole bunch of questions about which designers you like and don't like, then your own private boutique is curated for you. Basically, Lyst scours a whole ton of online shops and puts them all in one place. Imagine, instead of tons and tons of boutiques spread across they're all in one place - like a mall - but so much more awesome because no one steps on your toes.

Star Wars, Mini skirts, and Toques.

Perhaps not the most logical of things to put together. But despite my love of all things Vulcan *yes, I did reference Star Trek in a Star Wars post, the two can get along, let's move on* logic does not always motivate my actions. Often it's whim, gut, and in the case of fashion, pure whimsy.

Dresses, Boots, and Shenanigans

Boots and a dress - other than jeans and a cute top - are a no fail outfit. They go together perfectly. And just like anything else in my life, I don't like things to be too sweet; so, the sweetness of a cute dress is toughened up a little by boots. Not cute little pumps or sweet Mary Janes. But boots.

Honest Straight Shooter

I don't like it when I think too much about others expectations of me.
It's a trap! *and I said that like in Star Wars, by the way*
But you know, sometimes I fall into it as well. I become a little too preoccupied with playing the game, or behaving how others expect  me too. And then I get frustrated and grumpy.

Heels and Leather Pants

Kind of a natural pairing, you know? Like jeans and a tee. Coffee and croissant. There's something about putting the two together that feels right.

Road Trip Wishing thinking

The sun roof open and the suns rays hitting the back of my neck.  The windows rolled down and the wind whipping my hair. Driving in a moment like that makes me feel like I should ditch it all and go on some sort of epic road trip.  The kind where adventures find you and you'll be sleeping in your car at least once.  The kind where camp fires will be had, jokes will be made, and someone is gonna pull out a guitar.

You know, the kind we all want to have.

It's All About Interest

Sometimes, rarely, I do enjoy wearing an all black ensemble.  But whenever I do monochrome, I love playing with textures upon textures.  Sequins, wool, fur, and pleather....did I miss anything?

It's just interest I guess.  I love to see some interest in clothing. When there's textures, or colors, there's interest, feeling, and a sense of that individual's attitude for the eve.  I don't presume to encourage people to judge by the cover, but it's fun to say something about your state of mind at this particular moment.

Mine was all about the party.

Can we talk about how awesome braids are?  They're really easy, and take little time *this took me 10 minutes* but look like you really put in an effort.  Oh, and you can pretend your hair is super clean when really you're just too darn busy to give it a wash.

Yeah, I can really get behind anything that allows me to save time.

Well,  there you have it.  Snow has come.  We had a big snowfall.  You know what that means?  No more denial for me.  I can no longer deny that the cold temperatures are here to stay, try as I might.

For a while there, I could ignore the frozen fingers as they worked the tripod and buttons, but once you're getting snowed on and the scenery is pure white, well, there's only so far delusions can take you, am I right?

Or maybe I'm not trying hard enough.

....how about bringing it all together?   The previous post was about maxis, and the one before that was about faux fur, somehow it feels like the perfect third part to bring maxis and faux animal into one outfit and one post, with this maxi leopard print skirt.

You would think genius like this is pre-planned, but you'd be wrong.  Yup, this three parter is brought to you entirely by happenstance and the weird, idiosyncratic workings of my mind.  I mean, er, yeah I totally planned this.

Aaaaaand, that's the end of the genius.
It was very short lived.
Also, debatable if it was actually genius, but we'll just give me that one, shall we?

Maxis Hold Little Secrets

Boho maxi dresses are just sublime.  I love the wonderful assortment of patterns, the swish and swirl as you walk and turn.  There's something deeply satisfying in the weight of the material moving through the air with my movements.  Almost a secret dance known only to me.

Also, there's a great ease to them.  For Winter, leggings and tights are easily hidden underneath for warmth, and sweaters just layer perfectly on top.  The sweep and drama of bold colors and patterns make it look like you tried really hard - that's another secret.

Personally, I think it's so much fin.  It adds texture and interest to an outfit immediately.  But to me it always has the danger of getting too glam or dressed up, so the fact that this jacket had a hood made it perfect because the hood brings it back down.

There's a great level on contradiction in the playful, laid back hood, and the luxe, glam faux fur.  And contradictions in clothes, and in people, are what adds such kaleidoscopic beauty to life.

Plus, it's fuzzy.

This weekend was a roller coaster.  Friday night I had the chance to celebrate a great lady's birthday.  Saturday things seemed to go well but my Girl was a bit under the weather.  This progressed to a full blown fever that persisted the rest of the weekend.  As this is posted this morning, I know she's not going to school.

Poor girl spent Sunday on the couch drinking tons of water/juice and sleeping on Mama a lot.  Let's see how the Monday goes.

Oh and trust me, this is not how I was dressed on Sunday...but it was how I was dressed on another day.
