I don't match things.  I don't think about does this match per se.  I think does this 'go.'  There's a difference I think.  Matching means the same - it means they are the same.  When I put clothes on I don't think about whether they are the same and therefore matching, I think about do they go together.

Do they bring something out in the other?  Do they create a contrast, a balance, or even spark your interest in the way the patterns, textures, or colors play off of each other?  Mostly, I ask myself do they feel right together?

This is all subconscious - mostly.  For instance, I didn't realize these two pieces even had differing patterns.  They just felt right together.

Gazebos? Really?

There's this secret that everyone else is in on, and yet I'm left out of.  It's a secret that everyone just instinctively knows, it's in the DNA, except that I seem to be missing that gene.  It's the "What the heck is the real purpose of Gazebos" gene.

Honestly, what is the purpose and the logic of having a tiny little gazebo shoved in around a beach, trees, and field?  It's only big enough for maybe three people and it seems to serve no function.  I have yet to find a gazebo of who's purpose and function I am capable of gleaming.

It's a tiny little wood structure in the middle of nowhere with rather uncomfortable seating, so it's plain that they don't want you resting there. The views are usually obstructed by timber. It's never in a convenient location. Plus, there's a decided lack of hammocks. So really, what's a gazebo for?

Other than being a fun background for a fashion blogger of course.

Decades of Palazzo Pants

I've always had a thing for palazzo pants.  But for a while there * read: ten years or more* they have been out of style and therefore you couldn't find a pair to save your life.  Same thing with kimonos - three cheers for that resurgence! Now they're everywhere and I'm stocking up for the next ten years.  They may then be out of style, but I love how they look and they're staying in my closet. You know those things that you like regardless of trend?  This is one of those things.

And ultimately, isn't that what defines personal style.

p.s. That blue wristband is a permanent accessory for the next little while as it signifies my permission to be on the grounds and get all my meals.  So...yeah.

...I'm a big ol' hippie.  I realized as I got dressed, that I loved every piece, and that I loved everything together.  And then I realized that there was no denying that it's all very boho, very lounge, and very 70s.

And I've also realized I don't care.  I'm going to be the crazy ninety year old woman in palazzo pants and a kimono.  Unless of course it's post apacalypse zombie land...in which case, I'll be wearing a kimono over my two holstered pistols, bow, and katana.  Priorities right?

You guys all know by now that I'm not a Yoga practitioner. It's just not my thing.  But I do love a good yoga inspired top, and not just for daily life, but also for my Kung Fu and Tai Chi training times.  This top from YogaOutlet is awesome.  I love the soft muted feminine colors and the stretch and flexibility of the material.  It feels like a cross between ballerina and yoga, but I'm gonna use it to look chic, kill 10Ks, and kick ass.

Of course, this particular day I wore it as part of a relaxing outfit for a day spent lounging and mucking about on my computer.  Which, as we all know, yoga wear is perfect for!

So I suggest checking out YogaOutlet to find those pieces for whatever you enjoy doing, be it dancing, stretching, punching, or doing jigsaw puzzles.

This is How We Roll...or How A Toddler Saved Her Dad

12.9.13

Pants -  L'Atiste via Threadsence //  Jacket & Sunnies - F21  //  Shirt - Gap  //  Shoes - Aldo  //  Necklace - c/o Atterley Road

Andrew made a mess of the counter and walked away.  I walked up to said counter, looked at it, and turned to him, "Really?  Is this how we roll in this house?"  From the peanut gallery on the couch came a little girl voice, "No Mama!  I show ya."

She got on the floor on her back and proceeded to barrel roll down the length of the kitchen saying, "Look!  This is how you roll Mama.  See?"

I looked at Andrew and said, "You realize she just saved your butt, right?"

Side note:  these palazzo pants are so amazing.  I think other than pleather pants, palazzo pants are my other love.

Hindsight Is 20/20

1.8.13

Top - H&M  //  Pants & Sunnies - F21  //  Necklace and Bracelet - gift from Poland

Sometimes things don't go the way you were thinking, but then with hindsight you can't see them going any other way.  There are some projects I auditioned for that I didn't get, and was really bummed about, but then months later while working on new and exciting ones I realize that if I had booked that other gig I wouldn't be having the amazing experience I am now.

I'm one of those people who likes to think that everything happens for a reason, but has severe trouble accepting or believing it in the moment of a harsh disappointment.  It isn't until later, with hindsight that I realize the path.  I need to get better at really believing it at the time.

Occupy Winter

There's new growth and sunshine, and though my heart does not rise with it yet, my brain knows it's only a matter of time before the warmth and light of the sun push aside the dark and dreary nooks of the spirit left by the grey of Winter, and take up permanent residence.  Until such time, the softness of loose cotton, raw silks, and soft knits will keep me company and blur the hard lines.

My Own Private Little Nona

20.11.12

Pants & Vest - F21  //  Top - H&M  //  Necklace - bought in Europe  //  Boots - Feet First

It made me so happy to nab the exact faux fur vest I wanted for 50% off at F21.  When I tried it on it immediately made me feel like Nancy Kovak as 'Nona' in Star Trek's "A Private Little War."  Though it's not bright orange, and I'm not nearly as sexy as the seductive 'Nona,'  I felt a little wilder wearing it.  Also, the complete geek in me loved walking around all day in my own personal little Star Trek world.

True Story:
Baby Girl is currently obsessed with Plants vs. Zombies.
She walks around all day asking for "Zombies!"
So I sit there playing the game on my tablet while she watches, comments, and pushes the screen randomly.
With the occasional, "Watch out!"

Chocolate and Wine Only

26.9.12

Top & Pants - F21
Vest - I forget.  It's old.
Shoes - Payless
Zebra Necklace - Lustre in Montreal

I'm calling these my grumpy pants.  Not because they make me grumpy, but because when I'm feeling grumpy and don't want to wear anything it's these pants I turn to. Seriously, I think Palazzo pants might be the best thing ever invented because they're like sweatpants you can wear in public while looking fashionable.

It just doesn't get better than that.

Okay, well maybe if there was a doctor approved "chocolate and wine only" diet for healthy living.  That I could really go for.  While wearing these pants.

Too Legit To Quit!

28.8.12

Earrings, Necklace & Pants - F21
Rings - Threadsence and Ruche
T-shirt - Lucca Couture

My new obsession is Palazzo pants.  I mean how awesome are they?!  Loose, free flowing and totally comfy pants.  It's like suddenly being allowed to wear sweatpants in public!

The best part was that for biking I had to tie my polka dot shoe ties around my ankles so as to not get the pants caught in the spokes and it totally made me look like M.C. Hammer in U Can't Touch This!  I'd like to think I'm just as cool and just as well accessorized. I've never met James Brown though.

p.s.  they are the best PMS pants ever.  Loose with an elasticized waist for those days that you suddenly feel like you're larger than the entire Atlantic and Pacific oceans combined.

p.p.s. Did I mention the elasticized waist?
