Rumi, Poo, and Threesomes

We all take ourselves very seriously. Too seriously. Wandering about like high powered business people, or trying to be profound and making sure that every thing we write, say, or do is full of wisdom and enlightenment. Like witticisms just drip from our tongues, and quiet reveries give mindful epiphanies.

But even Rumi, the poet, knew that the key to life is to not treat oneself as sacred, to not be too serious. He wrote a whole poem about having a good poo. And another one where he gets distracted halfway through thinking about a threesome.

See? If Rumi in his wisdom knows to laugh at himself and acknowledge the absurdity and folly of humanity, should we not also take a lesson from that?

I'm sorry, I got distracted halfway through by...uh...never mind.

Star Wars Fashion for the Star Wars Movie

Yesterday was probably a geek girls dream. I treated myself to a decaf Almond milk latte from the awesome coffee shop in the 'hood - SuperCoffee.  Then had a blast recording several new podcasts for the D&D game I'm in. Yes, I play D&D and in this game I'm a hesitant doctor who prefers to use her sword.

Individuality

Dresses, Boots, and Shenanigans

Boots and a dress - other than jeans and a cute top - are a no fail outfit. They go together perfectly. And just like anything else in my life, I don't like things to be too sweet; so, the sweetness of a cute dress is toughened up a little by boots. Not cute little pumps or sweet Mary Janes. But boots.

Honest Straight Shooter

I don't like it when I think too much about others expectations of me.
It's a trap! *and I said that like in Star Wars, by the way*
But you know, sometimes I fall into it as well. I become a little too preoccupied with playing the game, or behaving how others expect  me too. And then I get frustrated and grumpy.

Asking

Why is it often so hard to ask?  Why do we have a hard time asking for things we want and need?

But Mostly, The Beach

The beach, a delicious dinner, a stroll along the marina, a show, and catching up with an old friend.

Hold It Close

Languorous stretching.
Laziness.
Breathing deeply.
Smiling.
Soaking in the heat.

Are You Sexy?

Sexy. That's always been a hard one for me. I'll admit it. I had this idea of what a sexy woman was, and frankly, I imagined it as far removed from me as the sun is from Pluto....so veeeeery far.  I know that logically, this is silly. We're all humans, therefore sexual beings, therefore sexy. But I ain't talkin' 'bout logic here. I'm talking feelings and self-image.

Cute. That was how I have always been described, and how I always think of myself. Cute. Smart. Girl next door. All good things, and I never had an issue with them. Just as you can tell, not sexy. Frankly, it has always confounded me.

But now, I'm sexy! No I'm totally kidding you. I still don't really think of myself that way. I still think of myself as dorky, smart, cute, and well frankly awkward *Who's got a talent for putting her foot in her mouth? ME!* But now, I think I'm accepting things a bit more, like I mentioned in this post about being past thirty.

There's a fake construct of sexy in my head created by the world I live in, and there's a self-perception of myself created by me growing up in said world. And I'm recognizing the two for what they are. Doesn't mean they've changed or gone away, just means that hopefully their power over me is a little diminished.

It's made me start to consciously reframe what 'sexy' means to me. I'm trying to/starting to see it as an energetic sucking the marrow out of life, combined with a playfullness, and comfortable acceptance of ones physical self. It's also made me look at the people in my life with this eye and it's made me realize that damn! I've got a lot of sexy friends.

Jamaica Bound!

That's right. You read that right. I'm headed to that lovely land.  Actually, I'm there right now, and I'll be home on Thursday very very late.  Expect some fabulous shots from Jamaica next week, 'cause weather permitting I'll be on the beach.

Also, I've been looking for that great pair of neutral sandals for a while now, and I'm so thankful to Easy Spirit for providing them.  These are gonna go with everything, and I love that they have just a touch of a heel.

In the meantime, get those dresses out, get those frilly tops, and let's all enjoy the sunshine.

Cleaning up after dinner, I reached down and squeezed my little girl's bum.

"Mama, why you do that?"

"'Cause I like your bum.  It's beautiful."

"No Mama, my bum's not beautiful."

"No?"

"No. 'Cause bums are stinky and farty."

"Okay, well I still think it's beautiful."

"Maaaama," she says shaking her head.

Regardless of what may come. Regardless of shifts in my style. I have been and always shall be a nerd. *Anyone catch the Wrath of Khan reference?*

So when a good friend shared a picture of the Star Wars Vans his wife got him.  I immediately commented with, "WHERE?!?!!?"

They were on sale, and the next day I had called to have them set aside in my size, because there was no way I wasn't getting a pair.  Now, I have A New Hope on my feet, and it makes my geeky little heart sing every time I look down at my feet.

Which I do a lot now, and I really wish they'd stop putting poles and people right in front of me suddenly.

What to Wear to an Indie Launch Party.

Just before the mountains of snow descended upon us, before the weather fell to a painful minus thirty nine degrees celsius, before Toronto turned into the ice planet Hoth, I went out.  I went out and got some photos on a balm plus one degree day.  It's sad to think that I long for the warmth of plus one.

I stood there taking pictures for the launch party of another brand, and I remember thinking, "This isn't too bad.  I could handle this kind of Winter."  Oh what a fool I was.  I had no idea what was coming.  Every year around this time, the outfit posts slow, because I doubt you guys are interested in seeing the same pair of eyes peeking out from under the same blanket day in and day out...sitting beside a space heater.

No Hats In Bed

A few nights ago, my girl was crying in her sleep.  I went into her room to investigate why:

"Shhhh, why are you crying," I asked as I stroked her hair.
In her sleep she answered, "I don't want to wear a hat!"
"You don't want to wear a hat?"
"No"
"Well, you're in bed, so you don't have to wear a hat, okay?"
She nodded and nuzzled into her blankie.

This whole conversation in her sleep.
